Can Turbo Snails Move On Sand?

Can Turbo Snails move on sand? There is a long argument about this question, some people say that they could move on the sand, and some people say they can’t do that easily.

Turbo Snails are although big and could grow up to 4-5 inches in size and could last up to 12 years, but they are one of the most fragile Aquarium Snails, little wonder why many people see them as weaklings.

Can Turbo Snails move on Sand? Archaeogastropods like turbos aren’t suited for sand. Their gills will get clogged if they get buried, and they don’t get much traction.

Turbo snails could navigate on the sand, but they don’t do that very easily because they are not suited for sand.

This doesn’t mean their tank should be left like that without sand or any other substrate, no, they should have sand because it could save them when they fall from climbing the tank walls or to bury themselves when they want.

In the seas, they live on rocks and plants, but not on sand, although they could access the sand, but it is hard for them to move on.

Saying that Turbo Snails can’t navigate in the sand is very wrong, they can, but they don’t seem to like nor enjoy the idea because they can’t navigate on the sand like other snails, so it is very tough for them to do that.

The fact is Snails in the archaeogastropods family-like turbos and Astreas are not good on sand. Their gills will get clogged if they get buried, and they don’t get much traction.

So, they don’t seem to like Sand that much but could move on it with many efforts.

Conclusion

Turbo Snails and Astrea Snails could move on the sand, but they find it very hard to do and don’t seems to enjoy it.
